The Animator II role at ESPN is responsible for creating template and custom animations for short turn-around and long-range projects. Individuals need to work well within a team, but also have the skills to be successful when working independently. This is a hands-on position requiring good working knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and familiarity with Cinema 4D. Successful individuals in this role possess good conceptualization, communication and technical skills, are able to change direction easily, continually push their software skills and proactively communicate on all phases of an assignment to ensure the delivery of quality creative content.
General Responsibilities:
- Intermediate knowledge of After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator
- After Effects Scripting and Toolkit knowledge
- Foundational knowledge of Cinema4D, understanding 3D concepts, edit pre-built 3d scenes
- Translate assignment details and creative direction into visually compelling solutions
- Engineer animation projects for efficient versioning and rendering
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and adherence to quality control and delivery specs
- Highly motivated, work well under pressure, and able to prioritize assignments
- Confidence working independently and within a team
- Strong organization, communication, collaboration skills
- Receptive to creative direction/critical feedback
- Proactively develop personal software and technical skills
- Reliably adhere to time entry and daily reporting requirements

Demonstrates Intermediate After Effects Knowledge:
- Understanding the After Effects GUI
- Setup media & disk cache files in preferences
- Playback controls
- Layer Controls
- Timeline
- Compositions (frame rates, timecode, comp sizes)
- Project, Effect Controls tabs
- Organization principals within the ESPN pre-defined formats
- Organizational structures, folders setups
- Importing footage and formats
- Creating new composition within production parameters
- Safe title
- Import PSD layers and/or AI files
- Importing sequences and footage
- Adding key frames for animating objects and layers within a 2D space
- Animate PSD/AI layers
- Animating shape layers and masks
- Basic techniques for keying green screen player footage
- Basic understanding of standard AE plugins and 3rd party plugin suites (Red Giant, Sapphire)
- Utilize pre-built templates to generate final elements
- Understanding Matte & Fill, shaped versus unshaped
- Generate proper output for defined deliverables (codecs and formats)
- Interest in expanding creative and technical animation abilities
- Understanding of composition, motion theory, and animation principal
3D Animation:
- Demonstrates Entry to Intermediate Level 3D Knowledge
- Basic understanding of 3D principals in Cinema 4D or similar application
- High interest in pursuing more advanced 3D techniques
- Understand and displays 3D animation concepts and principals within portfolio
Basic Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop; familiarity with Cinema 4D
- Ability to work nights, weekends & holidays as assignments require
- Online portfolio/demo reel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience within the animation or graphics production industry as a hands-on artist preferred
- Higher level of Cinema 4D knowledge preferred
- Interest in sports and some familiarity with ESPN show package identities
