Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Long-term strategic production planning and reporting:
  • Design and execute big-picture plan for the feature film production, including pre-and post-production
  • Work with Producer to map out production schedules and strategically position major creative and technical landmarks
  • Assume the role and responsibilities of the Producer in his/her/their absence
  • Partner with Production Manager to supervise production schedule/quotas
  • With Producer, Production Manager and Technical Supervisor, design film’s production organization chart, global production pipeline, and department structure
  • Analyze production performance and strategically problem-solve to trouble-shoot inventory flow issues
  • Collaborate with leadership of other studio films to continuously streamline and improve production process
  • Plan for screenings and drive getting footage approved; plan and update footage chart
  • Coordinate with Post Production—timing, dubbing, previews, etc.
Budget and finance supervision:
  • Oversee and actively manage film budget and resources, including staff start/wrap dates
  • On a daily/weekly basis, supervise spending, strategize allocation of budget resources, and cost out impact of any changes and/or staffing delays with the Production Accountant
  • Prepare and present quarterly budget updates and production summaries to CFO and Executive Team
Personnel (technical and artistic staff) and production resource management:
  • Provide leadership and mentorship, encourage a shared vision, and be a touchstone for the crew
  • Serve as key Human Resources point person for the show: champion ongoing performance feedback and performance review process, actively address personnel and staffing issues, and help to problem-solve and resolve challenges and differences
  • Proactively review and assess production and staffing needs; mitigate risks, communicate shifts in production priorities and show decisions
  • Plan for and handle all crew transitions, taking on any budget and resource issues that arise
  • Lead the show’s hiring and staffing process, spearhead recruiting pushes, and be responsible for related administrative details such as offer letters and deal memos
  • Coordinate with Department Heads and leadership on other productions to acquire needed staff and facilitate their moves between projects
  • Provide mentorship and motivation to team leads and managers: assist them in supervising artists and balancing workload within department, and guide them through challenging stages of production, ups and downs, etc.
  • Manage equipment (machines/hardware/software) and office space resources
Support of the creative process:
  • Attend Director creative review and approval sessions and provide leadership as needed
  • Handle production dialogue recording sessions, and work with voice talent as requested by Producer
  • As necessary, attend and facilitate music scoring sessions and sound mix
  • Suggest production solutions that will allow for needed creative changes to be made
  • Support the film as needed through the seasons ofpublicity, marketing and distribution
  • Collaborate closely with producers of feature film’s special projects (promotional materials, trailers, DVD extras, title sequences, etc.) as well as studio-wide departments (Tools, Information Systems, Human Resources, Facilities, and Film)
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 5 years production management experience in animation film production or equivalent
  • Familiarity with all aspects of production, including budget & schedule management, personnel and performance management
  • Shown ability to stay objective and exercise sound judgment in complex situations
  • Demonstrated ability to support and encourage artists in all subject areas
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, negotiation, partnering and team-building skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to use positive tone and demeanor to diffuse disagreements, provide solutions, and cultivate a fun and productive working environment
  • Proven ability to maintain composure and focus in a demanding, fast-paced work environment
  • Thoughtful and diplomatic; successful in dealing with sensitive and confidential material
  • Ability to pull together and focus a diverse team of artists
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel, MS Project or equivalent, and FileMaker Pro platforms; database experience useful
