The Big Ten Network is seeking a BTN On-Campus Freelance Video Producer/Editor at the University of Maryland.
The On-Campus Freelance Video Producer/Editor will support the ideation, development, and implementation of Maryland Athletics multi-platform content with a focus on digital and social opportunities that align with linear content strategies. This is a freelance position (July-April) offering up to 40 hours per week. This position will report to Big Ten Network’s Manager of Digital and will be based in College Park, MD.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead Big Ten Network in the creative development, production, preparation, and delivery of University of Maryland Athletics content for multi-platform Big Ten Network channels (digital, social, broadcast)
- Ensure the selection of content/highlights is consistent with Big Ten Network/University of Maryland viewer trends to drive consumption with the Maryland audience while applying sound editorial judgment
- Perform pre-and-post production digital video editing optimized for sharing
- Organize and evaluate content for assigned programs/platforms; determine the agenda and tone of the segment
- Coordinate with Content Coordinators to shape the content and copy into video segments for digital and social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok)
- Shoot, edit, and produce long-form storytelling content for On The Mat (wrestling) and At The Net (volleyball) series that is distributed on digital, social, and linear platforms
- Manage the production of real-time reactions to breaking University of Maryland Athletics news and live coverage of University of Maryland sporting events
- Act as a digital advocate in coordination with the University of Maryland Athletics Department to ensure seamless Big Ten Network integration
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- 1+ years of experience producing custom digital content
- Strong knowledge of digital video production related techniques and on-line content management systems
- An established ability to create and produce compelling stories; generates and executes ideas, from concept to execution
- Proficiency with technology platforms and graphic design software packages (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, 3D Software) required
- Demonstrated production/editing experience with intercollegiate athletics programs or professional sports teams
- Must be organized, detail oriented, proactive, and a team player
- Demonstrated ability to meet strategic deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Possesses a deep knowledge of University of Maryland Athletics and pop culture
- Familiarity with Big Ten Network’s programming, talent, and brand initiatives

Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on digital media production preferred or equivalent experience
