Job Summary/Description:  

To manage and supervise the photographic staff, oversee maintenance of equipment, and generate content for broadcasts, web channel and social media.

The primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• The Chief Photographer is responsible for the photographic look of WILX and for the direct supervision of the photographer staff. The Chief Photographer is accountable for the work product of the photographic staff.
• The Chief Photographer shall critique, instruct, and train all staff in proper photographic and editing techniques and ensure that equipment is kept in good working order. This critique and instruction shall include making written evaluations of the photographic staff.
• The Chief Photographer shall prepare frequent and periodic reports to keep the Operations Manager informed of activities and conditions within photographic department. The Chief Photographer shall also maintain records on training or other activities as required.
• The Chief Photographer is responsible in assisting Ops. Manager in scheduling of the photographic staff, including shifts, days, and specific assignments. 
• The Chief Photographer is responsible for assisting Ops. Manager with recruiting and hiring photographers. He/She will make recommendations to the Ops. Manager for hiring decisions involving photographic staff. The Chief Photographer shall rely on his/her independent judgment in assessing the technical ability of applicants and making hiring recommendations.
• The Chief Photographer shall help ensure that regular work schedules, activities, Company rules, regulations, procedures, policies, and general orders are carried out.
• The Chief Photographer shall conduct inquiries into photographic staff delinquency in performance of duties and any violation of laws or regulations.
• The Chief Photographer shall consult with the Ops. Manager in determining discipline of photographic staff, including verbal warnings, written warnings, suspensions, terminations, and any other discretionary discipline.
• The Chief Photographer will have day-to-day photography/editing responsibilities. He/she will contribute to general news gathering, independently or teamed with a reporter, for various media channels. Additionally, the Chief Photographer will operate microwave and TVU remote systems.

Other Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strong photography and non-linear editing skills
• Ability to operate microwave trucks and TVU boxes
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule (any hour of the day when required.)
• Must provide own transportation to work
• Must live within 30 minutes of the station
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
• Should show individual initiative and creativity in photography skills
• Other duties as assigned by Operation Manager /News Director
• Assist in Managing news archive
• Accountable for news vehicle up keep

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must demonstrate solid news judgment.
• A.A. Degree in television production or photography desired.
• Previous newsroom experience as employee or intern.
• Ability to lead and work well with others.
• Strong photography skills and ability to think creatively under constant deadline pressure.
• Ability to operate photography and editing equipment as assigned.
• Valid driver’s license.

Technical / Other job Requirements -
• Knowledge of computers, cameras, and editing equipment.

Physical Requirements -
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing 50 pounds.
