Job Description

We are looking for a talented Digital Matte Painter/Environment Artist to join our dynamic team.

Description:

The Digital Matte Painter / Environment Artist creates photorealistic paintings that are used as an element to either embellish or replace live-action footage. Develop textures for CG models and comp assets. We are looking for someone with an excellent eye for detail as well as a broad artistic vision.

Responsibilities:
  • To work closely with Supervisor to produce painting and elements that match the concept
  • To provide or acquire photographic reference materials
  • 2D and 3D paintings for digital environments including:
  • Camera Setup
  • Modelling for Projection
  • Camera Animation
  • Projection Setup
  • Image Re-Projection
  • Atmospherics and Light Passes
  • To work in partnership with shader developers, lighters, and compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard
Required Skills 
  • Strong knowledge of advanced matte painting techniques including colour space, digital paint techniques and Photoshop file management
  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of visual arts : composition, perspective, value, colour, form, texture.
  • Ability to create your own assets (modelling - texturing - shading)
  • Excellent knowledge of photography : from camera focal lengths to lighting
  • Strong time management in relation to deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in feature films creating photorealistic environments
  • Degree in Art, industrial design, or painting preferred
  • Knowledge of Photoshop must
  • Understanding of compositing software desired – Maya, Nuke
  • Vue and Deep Paint knowledge a plus
This role can be based remotely, but there will be occasions when you will be required to visit the offices, either in London, Manchester or Denmark
