Job Description

Specific Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Director of Communication in the creation and implementation of district branding and strategic communications.  Develops, manages, supports and upgrades the website for district-wide use.  Trains and assists school and department staff on website design and maintenance.  Plans, films, and edits video content for strategic communication projects as assigned by the Director of Communication. Assists in the management of social media strategy for the district; assists in the revisions of the district social media plan as necessary based on best practices and industry standards.  Responsible for continuous monitoring and message development; alert senior staff if issues arise and messaging becomes a potential crisis. Serves as a back-up for emergency communication situations.

Position Duties:
  • Creates visually appealing content that highlights district staff, programs, activities, and initiatives.
  • Uses up-to-date and appropriate software to create compelling visual content for the web and social media.
  • Creates visually appealing websites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation, based on research for effective marketing, engagement, and communication.
  • Ensures that all web pages comply with appropriate legal and local policies, guidelines and standards.
  • Responsible for daily content updates of district website.
  • Integrates charts, data, photographs, video, documents, flow charts, graphics, into web design and social media, and other communications.
  • Photographs and/or videos events and individuals for weekly/daily content updates.
  • Plans, films, edits, and produces video content for strategic initiatives.
  • Supports school-based website editors to learn and use the District website platform.
  • Works directly and productively with district staff to determine needs, strategies, and goals for designing consistent school and department websites; acts as coach to school staff members.
  • Communicates with staff members or groups as needed in regards to the functionality of any and all parts of the websites; makes changes and supports staff as needed.
  • Continually remediates district documents and web content for 508 compliance (web accessibility) via WCAG 2.1 guidance and WAI-ARIA authoring guidelines
  • Website training, support and oversight for web accessibility compliance.
  • Facilitates, supports and serves school and department social media participants.
  • Provides usage data for district websites and social media initiatives.
  • Develops, designs, and produces printed and digital publications as directed.
  • Manages use of district branding of materials and presenting the district to stakeholders. Ensures consistent quality management. 
  • Manages surveys and other research tools, using results to improve district relationships, operations, and education delivery for student success.
  • Creates layout for ads for newspapers and magazines.
  • Designs, writes, edits, and oversee production and distribution of department, school, program, and district informational publications, including printed and electronic news releases, brochures, and reports.
  • Advises, edits, and sends broad-distribution email and other direct communication tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Social media platforms and how these platforms can enhance district communications;
  • Working well with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to build and diagnose web content by examination and production of HTML code and CSS Stylesheets.
  • Video content production and editing.
Ability to:
  • Develop harmonious and appropriate relationships with student, staff, parents, community;
  • Resolve work place conflict, maintain confidentiality, listen to others, maintain level of professionalism in the workplace, be open to others’ ideas and contribute to building a positive team spirit;
  • Remain calm and poised in an environment with frequent interruptions;
  • Communicate well in English fluently both verbally and in writing;
  • Demonstrate strong writing and editing skills including proficiency in spelling and grammar;
  • Read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions/instruction manuals.
  • Prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism;
  • Effectively utilize necessary technology equipment and software to include: email, research, word processing, database manipulation, listservs-based communications, general web-based and cloud-based applications, graphic design, video editing, and website development programs;
  • Exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment;
  • Ability to work flexible hours;
  • Understand and follow all district policies and procedures.
Experience:
Experience with managing a website platform for at least two (2) years for a private or public agency.
 
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Marketing, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working in a K-12 education, community college/university, or related setting in marketing, public information or communications.

Salary Range $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 / Per Year
