Description
  • The Director of Houston Public Media (HPM) Digital Content provides senior leadership for the creation and distribution of engaging content across all digital and social platforms. Makes digital editorial decisions and adjustments based on audience metrics, research and key performance indicators. Collaborates with news leadership on the creation of digital news content (including story posts, mobile and on-demand audio) and ensures commitment to HPM journalistic standards.
  • Creates and implement organization-wide digital and social strategy.
  • Ensures media management through internal methods and procedures and use of offsite feeds, storage and retrieval services.
  • Provides leadership and strategic oversight of growth efforts for social media, digital content, podcasting, digital marketing, digital fundraising and on-demand content.
  • Supports digital and social needs for all content departments at Houston Public Media, including news, talk shows, fundraising, communications, marketing and underwriting.
  • Builds-up, lead, manage and supervise a team of web producers and developers to ensure a robust HPM digital content operation that will generate substantial growth in the websites traffic.
  • Creates a comprehensive social media strategy that builds social audience, serves community and meets HPM journalistic and editorial standards
  • Makes technical recommendations for digital distribution, structure, content management system and website security to ensure reliability and performance of digital platforms including desktop, mobile and app.
  • Ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.
  • Resolves complex procedural, operational, and technical problems.
  • Works closely with all departments and leaders to provide guidance, training, mentorship and best practices for the implementation of digital and social strategy. Coordinates with promotions and development staff to advance public awareness of HPM digital programming and promote audience growth and financial support.
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Assists with station fundraising as assigned.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors and 7 years experience.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
  • Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of digital technical programming systems/software management in a media capacity.
  • Must have experience managing multiplatform teams and experience managing cross-functional projects across several departments in the organization.

Salary: 6,661.00 - 8,827.00
