Job Description

The video editor will play a key role to further our station’s mission to tell stories that are important to the people who live, work and play in Coastal Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. When you’re not owning the big story of the day, you can enjoy the beautiful beaches, harbors, parks and hiking trails our community offers, with more than 210 days of sunshine each year!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Capture visual content and edit long-form stories and daily newscasts as needed.
  • Work with producers, multi-media journalists and photojournalists to ensure a high quality product consistent with station's brand and content strategy.
  • Responsible for operating various news gathering equipment, including but not limited to video camera and non-linear video editing equipment.
  • Maintain video archive filing system.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to the station’s website & OTT platforms.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Reacts to breaking news on an immediate basis.
  • Gathers story related materials (sound and video) on tight deadlines.
  • Coordinates remote and studio events, creating synergy between remote and studio productions.
  • Collaborates with affiliates on breaking news stories, sharing of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Associate's degree in journalism or related field.
  • 1 year experience in related field preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Proficiency in non-linear video and audio editing.
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro preferred.
  • Must be organized, self-starter who can work independently.
  • Solid understanding and demonstration of multimedia file formats and strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a desire to learn.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
