Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism, communications, film studies, or a related field; supplemented by five years of experience in journalism, communications, video production or a related field to including 2 years of lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to oversee production and broadcasting for programs airing on Fulton County's broadcast and cable television station, FGTV. Work includes overseeing production planning, production, and editing and postproduction functions for multiple television programs; scheduling and programming broadcasting; producing special video projects; and supervising production staff. Production Supervisor is distinguished from Video Producer, Senior in that Production Supervisor primarily oversees productions/executive produces, but also directly produces technically complex and larger-scale productions. Production Supervisor is distinguished from Production Manager in that the former oversees a portion of station programming, whereas the latter manages all station programming and production staff and functions as Executive Producer on flagship programs.

Essential Functions:

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work of assigned staff and production crews; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.

Oversees production of, or personally directs and produces, public service announcements, promotions, special projects (such as live townhalls or election coverage), and programs, both on location and in a studio: plans set, lighting and video designs; oversees set-up and staging of the studio or location with appropriate lighting, set pieces, props, and backgrounds; confirms cast and crew; coordinates, instructs, and cues crew, guests, or talent; edits scripts; keeps track of time for live and live-to-tape productions; selects camera shots and composition; and makes related artistic and technical production decisions.

Reviews and approves content, scripts, public service announcements, and final tapes for productions: receives and reviews scripts; rewrites or requests changes to scripts; distributes final approved scripts; reviews book synopses and determines appropriateness of authors for interviews; reviews and approves final taped productions; and ensures productions meet standards.

Oversees editing of, or personally arranges and edits, audio and video content to create engaging, informative, accurate, and technically compliant finished projects and programs: acquires, digitizes, and imports content; selects, sequences, and edits elements together using complex audio and video editing systems; creates and incorporates graphics, effects, and animation; makes audio corrections; records voice-overs; exports finished products to tape or digital files; and creates and duplicates copies of media.

Coordinates with County Departments and officials, non-profits, or other external clients or vendors on media productions and public service announcements: contacts Departments to confirm video shoots, collaborate on scripts, coordinate air and re-air dates; and make production arrangements.

Programs broadcast network: schedules programs, content, and public service announcements for airing; adds and removes productions in master broadcast calendar; selects alternate programming when scheduled productions do not meet broadcast standards or deadlines; and creates and distributes monthly programming schedules and guides.

Oversees digitization and online upload of programs.

Operates a variety of audio and video production equipment and technology: sets-up, checks, and tests cameras, lighting, microphones, and related equipment; operates cameras, teleprompters, consoles, microphones, and other production equipment; and troubleshoots and makes adjustments to equipment.

Operates or uses various equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains television production equipment and motor vehicles; operates computers to enter data, research information, and compile and edit video, utilizing spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, and specialized editing software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Communicates with County officials, supervisor, producers, editors, talent/guests, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
