Job Description
The ideal candidate is a driven professional who is looking to lead the daily operations of our always-on portfolio of podcasts (40+ shows) across sports, entertainment, and internet culture. The Head of Audio Production, Talk/Always-On will be heavily involved in day-to-day production, managing members of the podcast team, and report directly to the Head of Production. The person in this role must exercise strong multi-tasking skills and be able to manage multiple projects at various stages. Candidates must possess an excellent ear for sound and storytelling, have the ability to wrangle hosts/talent and podcast producers, have excellent editorial judgment and an appreciation for the art of editing and being edited. The right candidate is ambitious, strategic, collaborative, and passionate about The Ringer’s coverage areas.
What You'll Do
What You'll Do
- Lead all aspects of day-to-day production of always-on Ringer podcasts with specific attention to balanced programming and seamless production
- Directly manage members of the podcast team and engage freelancer audio editors
- Supervise, train, and lead reports by providing work direction, constructive performance coaching, mentorship, performance meetings, and on-going feedback
- Work with other production managers and producers to either establish or maintain regular recording and publishing schedules
- With the Head of Production, cultivate a structured environment for creative work
- Create development opportunities and individualized development plans for staff and training to enhance skills and foster growth
- Identify opportunities to improve process and use staff thoughtfully
- Develop and manage budgets for each show
- Participate in creative brainstorm meetings
- Create a collaborative environment with multiple internal departments to effectively manage and communicate to the relevant stakeholders
- You will work out of the Los Angeles, CA office
Who you are
- Bachelor’s Degree OR equivalent work experience
- At least 10 years of experience in content development and production for podcasts
- Experience managing a team of direct reports, including focus on employee development
- Experience as a production lead for a podcast
- Experience working directly with high profile talent and guests
- A proven track record of producing high-quality content that draws on diverse perspectives
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
- Ability to evaluate audio content and quality
- A passion for and extensive understanding of The Ringer’s content
- Working knowledge of sports, pop culture, and tech, including but not limited to current events and relevant historical context
- Fluency in audio editing with editing software such as ProTools
- Capacity to work and react quickly in a digital news environment, in which major developments occur at all hours of the day
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive under pressure, which may involve working evenings and weekends
