We’re excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Redefine team as Head of CG. This is a key role in the studio, managing the Heads of Departments and Show Department Supervisors, to ensure all departments and show teams are working effectively to create the highest quality of work on time, on budget, and sustainably.
The Head of CG is a strategic role that works with our Head of Departments and Supervisors to ensure the right people, tools, technology and workflows are in place to continuously deliver the highest quality of work for our clients.
Redefine is a truly international company working with one pipeline and one vision to provide the very best Animation and VFX , so managing international communication across departments and shows is key to this role.
This position requires someone with long term, high level thinking who is comfortable implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency on an on-going basis. Working with the direction of the SVP and Global Head of Operations, you will oversee all shows, define methodology, plan artistic and production technology resources and define the work and requirements to ensure the best team is in place to deliver the work. From time to time, this will require you to resolve conflicts of workflow approach between department teams, and the focus must always be on delivering the creative vision of the client while supporting the studio values.
Because this position requires a broad understanding of technologies used for animated, VFX feature productions and drives so much strategy surrounding our resources and slate, it is imperative this person has experience with both production and development environments.
Collaborating with the Department Managers, you will be responsible for people planning and salary budgets for all artistic departments, in an effort to stay competitive and nimble as the company grows.. Jointly with the Operations Manager, you will line manage our Department show Supervisors and Heads of Departments and be expected to contribute to probationary reviews, annual appraisals including salary discussions, performance management and succession planning. When required, you will also assist the Talent Acquisition teams with hiring.
Responsibilities :
- Report to SVP of Creative and VP of Technology
- Partners with Global Head of CG and Technical Head of Workflow.
- Collaborate with the VFX supervisors, Head of Departments, Animation directors and Head of Character
- Animation in planning, development and adoption of technology based on production requirements.
- Work with all Supervising Technical Directors and Team Technical Supervisors to ensure all production needs are met as well as planning and implementing new technical initiatives.
MENTORSHIP :
- Provide high-level leadership in order to scale the organization to meet increased production capacity.
- Provide regular status updates for key projects to executive leadership and communicate decisions back to the shows.
- Serve as an escalation point for resolving complex issues spanning across different departments.
- Provide feedback to Heads of Departments and Department Supervisors.
- Promote a positive, productive and collaborative work environment
- Be innovative and part of a team that is constantly looking for industry leading technologies and bringing new
- ideas to the studio.
- Foster a spirit of communication and cooperation across all the departments they interface with.
- Work to resolve any cross-departmental conflicts that arise.
- Promote a creative, motivating and engaging workspace
Must Have:
- At least 10 years’ experience in the VFX or Feature Animation industry working in large studio pipelines.
- Significant supervision and/or management experience in the VFX/Animation industry.
- Proven knowledge of pipeline production techniques.
- Track record of interpreting technical, resource and training requirements to deliver results.
- Ability to understand the needs and demands of a production driven environment.
- Proven experience to work alongside senior management to develop workflow strategies.
- Talent to influence and build strong working relations within an organisation
- Strong technical understanding
Nice to Have
- Experience working across Film VFX, TV VFX, and Feature Animation
- Previous experience line managing a team of supervisors.
