Job Description

Please note this is a hybrid position and requires you to work from our Vancouver studio for part of the work week. This is not a remote opportunity. 

The primary focus of this role is to contribute to the character effects required on a range of upcoming animated features. Developing and constructing global simulation rigs and character setups you will combine your talent, extensive experience, and technical understanding to bring the highest quality creative character FX work to the screen.

What you’ll get to do:
  • Design, create, test, and maintain procedural creature simulation rigs in Houdini following department standards and workflows.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the department pipeline, tools, and workflows.
  • Develop custom Houdini Digital Assets (HDAs) to streamline creature effects processes and create documentation for created tools and workflows.
  • Optimize performance and troubleshoot problems in the CFX pipeline.
  • Provide mentorship and technical, creative, support to other team members.
  • Receive and address technical and creative feedback from supervisors and leads.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
What you bring:
  • Extensive experience with Houdini, Vellum Solver, and VEX, specifically in creating procedural simulation setups.
  • High level of shot production experience, demonstrated via reel.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and physics as they relate to creature movement and behavior.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Prior experience leading a small team or project segment would be a bonus.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the Animation or VFX industry.
The base wage range for this position is $48.07 – $69.71 per hour.
