Job Description

This position retains some Floor Director duties and also operates as the first point of contact for needs within the studio, including: lighting, wiring, sets, and technical support for systems and equipment. The Production Coordinator works with Floor Crew members to coach on production issues that occur during broadcasts, and with newly hired employees to train on systems and equipment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Direct live and taped programming within format guidelines including newscasts, commercial production and station promotions.
  • Operates board.
  • Assumes responsibility of newscasts and other programs. Offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Read, study and research scripts to determine how they should be directed.
  • Confer and collaborate with managers, crew members, on air talent and producers to discuss details of production.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the program are complete before the program begins.
  • Plan details such as framing, composition, camera movement, sound, for each shot or scene.
  • Along with producer, establish pace of newscasts and sequences of segments according to time requirements and accessibility. Ensures program runs smoothly during live broadcasts.
  • Handles last minute and unexpected changes in a professional, poised manner during live broadcasts. Communicates calmly, quickly and clearly to all involved as needed.
  • Maintains high knowledge of equipment. Notifies Production Manager of equipment needs and problems. Ensures equipment is maintained.
  • Understands and can articulate station's programming direction and philosophies.
  • Works with Production Manager to identify, analyze, and trouble shoot projects and issues within the Production Department.
  • Works with new employees to onboard, train on equipment and review expectations.
  • Coaches employees on technical issues as needed
  • Provides technical support for operating systems and manages technical aspects of the studio including, but not limited to: lighting, wiring, set placements, etc.
  • Additional duties as determined by Production Manager and Chief Engineer
Qualifications
  • At least one years' experience as a technical director or director in a TV broadcast facility.
  • Knowledge of Vizrt Programs or similar News Broadcast Automation Programs highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in producing and directing live and taped productions.
  • Strong working knowledge of news procedures, studio cameras and production equipment, floor directing, VTR operations, audio operations and character generation.
  • Strong leadership ability and managerial soft skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions with sound judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to relate and communicate in a productive manner to a variety of people including on air talent, visitors, production crew, producers, creative services and management. Treats co-workers and visitors with respect.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Work with time sensitive information under tight deadlines and in pressure situations. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate computer keys, cameras, teleprompter and board controls as well as general office equipment (telephone, copier, etc.) for extended periods of time. Wear headset during course of work. Ability to read, hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction. Ability to think critically and quickly and to articulate information in clear, concise manner to others. Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Above average pushing and pulling, bending and stooping. Climbs ladders. Lift up to 20 lbs. alone.
