Job Description

The E.W. Scripps Company’s Washington Bureau is looking for a Lead Investigative Producer to join its award-winning national investigative team. With national networks Newsy and Court TV, and a local media portfolio of more than 60 local television stations, the work of the Scripps national investigative team reaches diverse audiences across the country. The ideal candidate brings experience producing major investigative stories with impact, and they can demonstrate a track record of balancing short and long-term projects.

The Lead Investigative Producer acts as a senior voice on the team to develop, pitch and produce high-impact investigative stories for local and national television audiences. They work closely with both management and editorial staff to produce compelling stories with a fresh and authentic style.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Lead production team in the field and throughout post-production
  • Manage long-term project planning
  • Work sources to generate investigative story ideas
  • Manage stories with outside partners
  • Create budgets and timelines for each project and be responsible for meeting them
  • Collaborate with on-air reporters, data journalists, videographers and video editors to plan, budget and execute stories
  • Support other investigative team members with their projects as required
  • Write clear and concise scripts
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
  • 8-10 years experience producing impactful investigative video stories
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Have sources and know how to develop sources for investigative stories
  • Be skilled at story development and storyteller, with excellent writing abilities
  • Must be well versed with unique challenges of investigative reporting and provide the highest level of professionalism and accuracy in your reporting
  • Have experience leading production and reporting teams in the field 
  • Videography skills a plus, but not required
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Be flexible and versatile and be able to adapt to the ever-changing news environment
  • Be comfortable working with sources, documents, data and public records
  • Be open to finding new ways to tell and present investigative stories to viewers
