WSKG Public Television and Radio (NPR and PBS) seeks a high-energy public radio journalist to lead our 5-member news team from our studios in Binghamton, New York.

The News Director serves as an assignment, copy and online editor for WSKG’s radio department, and also includes the production of news for WSKG’s television, and online services in fulfillment of the station’s mission and in adherence with high journalistic and ethical standards.

WSKG serves 21 counties across New York's southern tier and the northern tier of Pennsylvania and operates 4 TV channels (PBS, PBS Kids, World and Create). WSKG also operates a small network of radio stations with the best in public radio news programming (WSKG Radio), and classical , jazz and American Roots music (WSKG Classical).

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field with practical experience in public radio journalism; at least two years of professional broadcast reporting experience and familiarity with radio newsroom management; one or more years of live broadcast hosting experience with expertise in voice delivery and writing for the ear; experience with micro-and-macro edits, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a demanding environment are required.



Familiarity with issues affecting upstate New York – especially the Southern Tier, Fingerlakes and Leatherstocking regions – and Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier; previous experience in a public broadcasting environment; competence with broadcast technology, including audio editing software, Brightspot, audio boards, automation, etc.; and familiarity with public radio programs, including NPR and PRI are preferred.
