Part-Time Host

WNYC, the nation’s largest public radio station, is seeking an exceptional journalist to deliver on-air newscasts, run a live board, and assist with show production three days a week. The regular schedule will include Saturdays, Sundays and one weekday, but flexibility is required to work, as needed, as a backup host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered Monday through Friday and on public holidays.

 The WNYC newsroom is committed to producing smart, enterprising, and timely news content for the New York City metro area and northern New Jersey. Candidates must demonstrate that they are enthusiastic self-starters with keen news judgment and strong ethics. They are unflappable both on the air and off, adept at writing copy for broadcast and web, running a board, managing story queues and delivering newscasts with warmth and authority. 

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the New York City/New Jersey metro area and is also well-versed in national and international news. At every turn, they are on the ground with our audience, thinking about how to keep them informed on events often as they are unfolding. They take an active role in shaping the daily editorial offering. That includes selecting, writing, and stacking stories for hourly newscasts, pitching stories, and occasionally pursuing stories in the field. They are an enthusiastic participant in the camaraderie, creativity, and collaboration that defines the WNYC newsroom.

Additional Information

This is a part time, three day per week role that includes prorated paid time-off benefits including holidays, vacation and sick days.

The regular schedule will include Saturdays, Sundays and one weekday, but flexibility is required to work, as needed, as a backup host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered Monday through Friday and on public holidays. 

Due to the nature of this role work time will be spent in-person at our office and as per NYPR policy you must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In addition, all facilities are cleaned often, our ventilation system is fully compliant with COVID safety standards, and mask wearing is required. In addition most non-essential employees are currently working remotely therefore very few employees are entering the office. Our team has worked very hard to make this a safe environment for those whose job duties require them to be onsite. 

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.
