Job Description

They will take an active part in the execution of Juilliard’s audio and video captures and live streams across all divisions – Dance, Drama, and Music – and Special Events.
  • The successful candidate will show enhanced skills in videography, camera use, and video production, including post-production and editing.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact

Responsibilities:
  • Operate cameras (manually operated and robotic PTZ), controllers, and switchers in multi-camera performance captures and live streams.
  • Edit audio and video recordings of Dance, Drama, and Music events for public release, educational use, and archival purposes.
  • Operate audio, video, and networked systems for recording and live streaming.
  • Execute camera functions as called by a director.
  • Collaborate with video director in planning and execution of projects.
  • Assist with setups, equipment maintenance, and provide technical expertise and advice when required.
  • Troubleshoot audio and video equipment as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Recording in establishing technical goals and direction for the department, as they strive to propel the Juilliard School into a tech-forward future.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned, to support school and department operations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in film production, journalism, communications, or other relevant area of study. 3 - 5+ years technical experience in performance video capture and editing.
  • Interest and ability to work in a world-class performing arts teaching environment.
  • Background in music required; dedication to supporting a vibrant Dance, Drama, and Music community is expected.
  • Ability to read music and follow a score preferred.
  • Broad understanding, aesthetic sense, thoughtful judgement, and keen ear/eye for attributes of high-quality recordings.
  • Practical skills in use of analog and digital electronics and logical approach to technical problem solving.
  • Experience with relevant production equipment such as Ross Ultrix/Carbonite/Dashboard, Sony FX9 and FX6 cameras, etc., or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with lighting for video.
  • Ability to execute all steps of post-production, including color correction, implementing notes/feedback, adding graphic elements, audio layback, and delivery.
  • Experience with industry-standard audio and video workstation software, such as Pro Tools and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and situational awareness.
  • Willingness and capacity to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as needed based on performance schedules and content deadlines.
  • Ability and desire to learn and apply new skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work is typically performed in an office, studio or stage environment.
  • Movement of equipment and set placement requires the ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and climb.
  • Ability to lift and place equipment that may weigh up to 30 pounds.
  • May require the ability to stand and perform duties for extended periods of time.
