Job Description

The photojournalist is responsible for providing visual content for Weather Group's television, streaming, and digital platforms. This includes shooting content, editing, and handling live shots under deadline. You must be an energetic storyteller, and possess a strong eye for capturing engaging visual images. The photojournalist role requires you to be forward-thinking, contribute to ideas around various newsgathering projects, and present ideas that drive viewers to our platforms. You must be FAA drone-pilot certified or be willing to get your license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports Weather Group's storytelling by gathering and editing video
  • Executes live shots around live storm and event coverage
  • Presents compelling and technically sound live shots when assigned, with a focus on breaking news and severe weather coverage
  • Collaborates with producers, as well as other editorial team members to create compelling live shots and stories
  • Engages with technical teams, post-production craft editing teams, and engineering/IT
  • Works collaboratively with reporters and field producers assigned to stories
  • Maintains a complete operational understanding of all team processes, procedures and workflows
  • Interacts effectively with with multiple departments
  • Contributes to the development and production of story ideas in a proactive style that blends well with the rest of the network team
  • Maintains camera and associated gear, transmission, and company-owned vehicles
  • Provide constant feedback on the condition of gear and technology 
  • Communicates with Engineering/IT to ensure all that all assigned equipment is maintained and functioning properly
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field
  • 3-5 years experience shooting and editing video in a high-paced newsroom environment
  • Must be available to travel on short notice
  • Must be willing to work extended hours when necessary, recognizing Weather Group is a 24/7 company
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide proof of motor vehicle insurability
  • Will be required to lift and carry equipment needed to perform their duties
  • Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) background a plus

  • Must possess unquestionable ethical standards
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
