Summary

WNEM, a Meredith Corporation TV station, is recruiting for a creative and passionate Producer. This person creates, coordinates, and writes content on a variety of platforms, including web, digital, social media and broadcast. This position will also produce our weekday show at 9 a.m. which incorporates both news and lifestyle content. This person will work closely with news management as well as sales in building specific segments. The Producer displays creativity, aggressiveness, attention to detail, resourcefulness and team spirit in the pursuit of excellent content for online and social platforms, along with newscasts. The Producer, in coordination with others, assists with the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on-air and on the station’s digital platforms. This person gathers meaningful news information from various sources, generates story ideas, checks out credible news tips, schedules news crews and takes in live feeds. The Producer is also responsible for creating content that is aligned with and enhances the station brand. This individual is responsible for publishing content on multiple digital platforms, including mobile, online and social networks. Successful candidates will have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of online and broadcast journalism and a sense of urgency for breaking news. This is a high-pressure, deadline-focused position, which requires a self-starter, who is flexible and has the ability to multitask.

WNEM, a Meredith Corporation TV station, is recruiting for a creative and passionate Producer. This person creates, coordinates, and writes content on a variety of platforms, including web, digital, social media and broadcast. This position will also produce our weekday show at 9 a.m. which incorporates both news and lifestyle content. II. Essential Job Functions

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

45%

 Previews news material before airing. Writes, edits and researches show elements. Coordinates with sales for specific interview segments. Posting content, including stories, videos and pictures to the station’s digital platforms, while complying with digital publishing standards, including AP Style guidelines and in-house style guidelines.  

30% 

Monitors news sources and social media to ensure news is being appropriately covered.  Discerning news tips, gathering information and distributing that information to the newsroom, setting up interviews and answering phones.

15% 

Write scripts for broadcast style and produce newscasts, contribute story ideas, participate in editorial meetings and collaborate with news team.

10%

Taking in live feeds and coordinating interviews. Operate teleprompter as needed.


III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

At least two years working in media, Social Media, with focus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Experience using a content management system (CMS) a plus.

Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP Style also preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must possess strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP Style. Knowledge of content management systems (CMS), HTML, CSS, various social media platforms, Adobe photoshop, AVID, and iNews are preferred.

Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-focused position.

Self-starter who has the ability to multitask.   

Must be results oriented.

Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure.

Previous experience with script writing and editorial experience preferred.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously

Ability to work a flexible schedule, and work as a member of a team.

Other duties as assigned by news managers.

% Travel Required (Approximate): Less than 10% local area only.
