Job Description

The Props Craftsperson will:
-          Take creative renderings and build out construction drawings, and time and material budgets;
-          Fabricate Props using skills such as, but not limited to, designing with foam (i.e. minicell, dri-fast, scot foam, plastizote, upholstery foam, etc.), vacu-form, plastics, molding & casting, stencil design/creation, fabrics; including cutting, barging, hand (Awl/speedy stitcher) & industrial sewing, wood and metal construction; aluminum cutting, bending, mechanical pulls & returns, and the creation of practical props;
-          Prep, apply, and finish assigned projects as well as completing the prep and cleanout of machine(s), tips, guns and lines. (Currently, the majority of V-Star urethane will be applied to EPS foam);
-          Thrive in a collaborative environment to create and solve challenging problems;
-          Creatively think of ways to use and modify off-the-shelf items when required;
-          Foster a collaborative attitude to satisfy IP holders, budgets, timelines and performer interaction abilities and comfort. In addition, collaborate with other departments to ensure that other elements can be implemented together when required;
-          Document all fabrication details and materials used for knowledge base consistent with the appropriate company documentation formatting guidelines;
-          Work with the technical team to develop and maintain a safe working environment; 
-          Adhere to OSHA regulations and maintain safety procedures for staff; 
-          Carry out all other tasks required by the Production Shop Lead and Manager.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-          At least three years of experience in professional Propsfabrication;
-          Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD and Windows;
-          Basic Graphic Design skills including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and experience working with professional print vendors;
-          In-depth experience in theatrical Props for large scale productions;
-          Proven skill in Props and Softgoods fabrication (masking skirts, dressings, grommeting, etc.); Previous Urethane Resin application experience;
-          Experience Modeling and Texturing in various mediums;
-          Strong understanding of low voltage electronics;
-          Previous experience working with third-party IP holders;
-          Excellent sculpture and scenic painting skills; I.P. adherence experience;
-          Knowledge of CNC Routing & 3D printing an asset;
-          Exceptionally detail-oriented, adept at time-management, and a good communicator;
-          Ability to work in active environment requiring standing, sitting, bending, crawling, climbing, crouching, and kneeling, often for extended periods;
-          Ability to lift 75 pounds;
-          Fluent in English, French is an asset;
-          10-hour OSHA course completion card required;
-          Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;
