Job Description

What we’re looking for:

An Associate Producer to research and write news scripts for assigned shows and newscasts. Contribute to special features and stories. Participate in coordinating coverage of major stories, breaking news and specials.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Digital Responsibilities
Write articles for our app/website based on show interviews (minimum of 3 per week)
Select and post clips from show interviews to Twitter, along with corresponding copy and tags.
Be knowledgeable of Twitter best practices and analytics
Assist host with gathering clip transcriptions and media for Twitter.
Production Responsibilities
Attend production meetings
Send out virtual meeting invitations to show guests
Schedule feed recordings and manage media on feeds
Monitor taping feeds, clip media and communicate promotional clips to other shows
Prepare chyrons/graphics – double boxes, lower thirds, full screens, etc.
Share rundown information with the team
Aid creative producers with development of show visuals
Assist line producer, creative producers and executive producer with other duties as needed
Fill in for line producer when needed


Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Strong broadcast news writing (AP Style) ability.
Ability to anticipate situations and meet strict deadlines.
Interpersonal skills and excellent collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization.
Knowledge of current events and industry trends.
Attention to detail.
Familiarity with the local market.
Knowledge of social media platforms.
Must be able to work rapidly and accurately.
Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software and basic non-linear editing systems a plus.
Basic editing skills.
Must be able and willing to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field or comparable television work experience preferred
2+ years of television news experience. Writing samples required.
