The Communications Coordinator will support the CBS News and Stations communications team and work with the Washington D.C.-based publicists and journalists to develop strategies and tactics that generate publicity and increase brand awareness across CBS News.
The role will support strategic communications for the editorial and reporting originating from the CBS News Washington Bureau, CBS News’ award-winning Sunday morning public affairs program "Face the Nation” and the only network evening news broadcast out of the nation's capital, the “CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.”
Responsibilities:
• In collaboration with the Washington, D.C.-based communications team, the coordinator will work with D.C.-based broadcasts and platforms, correspondents, producers, website editors, and social leads in promoting CBS News, including podcasts and streaming shows.
• Support the strategic publicity efforts for “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” including drafting and distributing guest listings, broadcast transcripts, and ratings releases.
• Distribute guest listings and editorial highlights.
• Research and pitch creative placements, interviews, stories, and speaking opportunities for CBS News journalists and executives.
• Help manage assets for awards materials and submissions, coordinating with teams across the division and wider communications team as necessary.
• Maintain accurate correspondent bios, headshots, and fact sheets about CBS News journalists and programs originating out of Washington.
• Maintain mailing and press lists.
• Partner with Washington bureau leaders for internal events and employee engagement activities.
• Collaborate with the department coordinator to ensure all documents are maintained and distributed in a timely manner with key stakeholders.
• Help manage PR campaigns for assigned projects from development to implementation, with oversight/guidance from the wider team.
• Regularly track media coverage and gather media recap reports.
• Support event planning and execution for industry and company events.
• Assist with administrative duties, including managing schedules, expenses and contacts.
Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and provide attention to detail.
• Strong, polished interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interest in and understanding of news, especially politics.
• Prior administrative experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative and team-player.
• High-level proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Slack.
