Job Description

LIKE LOCAL NEWS, BUT WISH YOU COULD WORK REMOTELY?
Now you can get your news producer fix, without moving.

You love to produce television news: The creative writing, the compelling video and sound, the showcasing, the rush of breaking news, but your life outside of work has taken root in a particular community, and you just don’t want to give up the place you call home.

We have a rare temporary opening for experienced, self-motivated news producers to produce newscasts remotely for the Scripps local news station in Ft Myers-Cape Coral, Florida.

This is a good fit for you, if you know how to identify the best sound and video for compelling cold opens and teases, and how to collaborate virtually with news managers, anchors, reporters, photojournalists and editors to make editorially-sound decisions and deliver factually accurate content.

Depending on skillset, experience, and staffing needs, the newscast assignments will span 4-5 days a week and focus on writing or producing for one of the following time periods: late evenings on weekends and weekdays, or weekday mornings.  The length of employment for this full-time temporary role is 6 months.

  • Provide training and coaching consistent with the content strategy to producers and associate producers to develop their overall skill set.
  • Research, develop, and plan stories that support the company’s content strategy. This may include live or prerecorded newscasts/local programs and editing or repurposing existing content to enhance the end product.
  • Enhance the content with graphics, video, research, and station branding
  • Execute time sensitive decisions.
  • Responsible for oversight of live broadcast and up to the minute editorial decisions.
  • Perform desktop editing.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Your home base in one of the following states: FL, NY, MD, VA, GA, MI, OH.
  • Strong vision and ability to advance stories.
  • Excellent interpersonal communicator.
  • Extraordinarily passionate about writing; courageous and creative storyteller with attention to even tiny details - choosing the perfect words, grammar, spelling.
