Job Description

 
The Video Editor role will work closely with Seeker video teams to edit non-fiction content ranging from studio productions, text driven narratives to field documentaries. A portion of this role also provides support as a Motion Graphics editor, as such this role requires an aptitude for video production in addition to a robust motion graphics skillset.

The Video Editor will possess a developed level of creative resourcefulness with a strong interest in science and technology. Our ideal candidate knows how to inform and engage large internet audiences and lives to find compelling, visual ways to tell stories. Our Video Editors are a crucial part of the Seeker video content production team and we’re looking for an editor with a high-level of self-sufficiency, strong collaboration & communication skills and an ability to adapt to changing show styles, schedules and feedback.

A typical week includes:

Skillfully edit non-fiction video content ranging from studio productions, text driven narratives to field documentaries
Proactively identify edit inefficiencies and challenges and work collaboratively to put forth and implement solutions
Communicate and collaborate with producers and associate producers to align on appropriate internal expectations based on the scope of each project and episode, as well as addressing any creative and QC revisions
Capturing, sourcing, and animating additional images, video, and assets as needed
Selecting appropriate music & sound effects and reporting appropriate music usage
Archiving and organizing projects to streamline productions and work within Seeker quality & technical standards
Meeting video teams' publishing schedules
Performing other duties as needed

Success will look like:

Mastering the various formats that Seeker produces and executing them to a high standard that aligns with Seeker’s voice & tone
Impactful, visual storytelling that translates to high performance indicators like watch time, retention and views
Proactively identify edit inefficiencies and challenges and work collaboratively to put forth and implement solutions
Creating high-quality and scientifically accurate animation assets that adhere to Seeker’s design standards and style guides

The next great Video Editor will have:

2+ years of professional experience in video editing, motion graphics, and animation
High proficiency with Adobe CC (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Media Encoder, Illustrator)
Creative, organized and able to work independently with little direction
Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
Comfortable working in a fast paced, ever-changing production environment
Strong knowledge and experience with different video formats, codecs, frame rates, audio compression, and standards for web video
Passion for art, design, science, technology
Passionate consumer of video content on many different platforms
