Job Description
The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Show Director in all aspects of production, coordinating all production activities, and maintaining the split-second timing for various fast-paced live, pre-recorded & APC productions.
Job Duties
- Assists the Show Director with show traffic, pre, and post-production
- Maintains constant communication with Master Control, Show Director, Stage Manager as well as the entire production crew pertaining to show flow, all timing, and countdown aspects of the show
- Responsible for obtaining all information related to show timing from Producers, Traffic, and Master Control
- Responsible for physically timing various video file clips and other show elements as needed
- Oversees playback of media through multiple controllers (i.e. EVS IP Director, MPlay / BEPlay, and Avid Command) for the assigned show(s)
- Responsible for the insertion and removal of branding graphics, digital, and breakaway cover slates during show segments and commercial breaks
- Directs show segments, briefs, and other elements in the absence of a Show Director
- Assists Show Directors with the APC workflow that includes coding assigned shows and double-checking codes during breaking news/emergency scenarios
- Works under the direct supervision of the Director, Control Room Operations, and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by the manager as needed
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, TV Production, or related field OR equivalent work experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a production, postproduction, broadcast, or communications environment
- Exhibits strong knowledge and understanding of broadcast and production technology
- Proficient in Avid iNEWS or other NRCS (Dalet, ENPS, Inception, etc.)
- Fluency in Spanish & English (both written & verbal)
Desired Characteristics:
- Fluency in English & Spanish is preferred
- Familiarity with control room automation systems including Sony ELC, Ross Video OverDrive, and Grass Valley Ignite.
- Prior Studio or Remote/Field experience
- Exceptional time management, facilitation, and organizational skills
- Self-starter who exhibits ownership of assigned tasks and who will push for solutions that solve immediate problems while building toward long-term goals
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, dead-line-driven environment
- Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail
- Ability to build rapport with clients and manage expectations
- Ability to effectively be flexible in approach, and respond well to pressure
