Job Description

The assistant producer is responsible for generating ideas, developing concepts, scripting, coordinating, scheduling on a variety of projects to create video in support of all areas of the campus. In particular, the assistant producer works closely with and supports the Director of Video in a fast-paced, agile environment to ensure that university videos meet objectives, deliver on time, and align with university brand messages and professional standards. In addition, the Assistant Producer manages and/or collaborates with freelance production companies, directors, writers, editors and photographers on a variety of projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Works closely with the Director of Video and OMC colleagues to identify and create video projects that communicate the university brand identity, support enrollment and recruitment, drive fundraising and alumni engagement, and facilitate leadership and internal communication.
2. Work independently to create video content from conception to completion. This includes shooting, lighting, sound recording, interviewing, and post-production, including crafting stories through the editing process.
3. Serve as a project manager on video projects, including establishing expectations, managing timelines, communicating with all stakeholders, and delivering on deadlines.
4. Serves as liaison on video projects with outside agencies, including responsible for managing communication, managing deadlines and deliverables, providing creative direction, ensuring brand alignment and professional standards are met on a project by project basis.
5. Manage project budgets and administrative functions, include creating statements of work, getting purchase orders opened, contract processing and regular reporting of project costs/expenses.
6. Concept new multimedia stories for marketing/promotional purposes for a variety of formats.
7. Create detailed production calendars and budgets, establish expectations, communicate with all stakeholders and deliver on deadlines.
8. Manage video assets of the Office of Marketing and Communication.
9. Proactively work with the university partners and liaisons, both formal and informal, to cultivate and aggregate multimedia stories for Marquette.
10. Conducts pre-interviews with video subjects in person or over the phone and works to schedule interview times and locations.
11. Works to secure shooting locations, props, parking, and catering when necessary
12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in multimedia, journalism, communication, film, or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in video production including interviewing
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite video editing programs, mainly Premiere Pro
  • Working knowledge After Effects preferred
  • Proficient in DSLR cameras, tripods and monopods, drone and gimbal operation, basic sound and lighting setups.
  • Proficient in appropriate export settings which include video compressions for both broadcast and upload to a variety of video platforms
  • Self-starter who is curious and always on the look-out for a good visual story
  • Experience in negotiating, scheduling, bidding and estimating
  • Knowledge of industry trends
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle demanding deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and travel when necessary.
