Job Description

The Big Ten Network is searching for an Associate Producer to join their studio team in Chicago, IL. The Associate Producer will be responsible for producing highlights, gathering and editing video and sound content, and assisting producers and on-air talent with daily tasks for all studio shows. You will work on sports including, but not limited to, football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, wrestling, hockey, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. You will work on studio programming that includes pre and post game coverage, nightly recap shows, and daily discussion-based talk shows. In addition, you will understand how to bring creative ideas to life as engaging content that is grounded in strong news judgment and a great understanding of collegiate sports knowledge. This position will report to the Coordinating Producer of Studio Production and will collaborate with others within the department.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and edit video content for air, including highlights, sound, opens, bumps, montages, and voiceovers
  • Produce game highlights by selecting key plays, working with editors, and writing shot sheets for on-air talent to read during live studio shows
  • Collaborate with show producers to generate segment and show ideas
  • Know key storylines of Big Ten games each day you are working
  • Up-to-speed on current teams and players, while being prepared to react to breaking news coverage
  • Research statistics and build graphics for use in live studio programming
  • Liaise with other departments involved in production, including technical operations, edit group, design, digital, and sales teams
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • 3+ years of studio production work experience
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, with strong knowledge and passion for sports and media industry
  • Knowledge of the Big Ten Conference and the sports we cover
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Self-motivated and able to have conversations with multiple levels of personnel
  • Computer literate in MS Word and Excel, iNews, Viz, Grass Valley, and Stratus
NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcasting, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of remote television production
