Job Description

Weigel has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Maintenance Engineer based in our Chicago headquarters. In addition to supporting the technical needs of our three Chicago TV stations, our engineers also maintain the master control for five nationally-distributed TV networks and multiple television stations across the United States.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Install and maintain broadcast television and IT related equipment including routers, switches, encoders, multiplexers, video servers, IP encapsulators, wireless microphones, intercom systems, and signal processing and conversion devices.
  • Run and terminate cables including coax, network and audio up to our high Weigel Broadcast Engineering standards.
  • Instruct users on the operation of equipment.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support.
  • Work schedule includes various shifts that may include nights and weekends.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of broadcast video servers, broadcast automation systems, HD production environments and production automation systems.
  • You must be a self-starter and able to prioritize work.
  • You need to have a proficient level of knowledge of IT standards and practices including computer networking.
  • You must work well with others and have excellent written and oral communication skills to be effective in communicating technical things to non-technical users.
  • Systems level knowledge of news editing, production graphics and playout systems such as Grass Valley Ignite, Ross Overdrive, Grass Valley Stratus, and Telestream Vantage is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of digital television transmitters, satellite uplinks and microwave STL/TSLs is preferred.
