Job Description

In this full-time role, you will collaborate with departments throughout SCAD to build sets and implement lighting designs for film, TV, live performance, themed entertainment, and interactive experiences.  You will liaise with practicum students assigned to the shops and the production technical director; maintain and control the lighting, audio, video, and special effects equipment inventory; and interpret construction drawings and light plots for fabrication and implementation as directed by the production technical director. 
 
As a carpenter/electrician, you will assist with the supervision of more than 100 production carpentry, lighting, and scenic design students each quarter in the Crites Hall production shop, as well as venues such as Hamilton Hall Studios, Savannah Film Studios, the XR Studio, the historic Lucas and Trustees Theaters, the Mondanaro Theater, Arnold Hall, site-specific nontraditional interactive projects, multiple on-location film and TV sets, and SCAD’s themed attractions and VR experiences. You will also ensure all safety standards and best practices are being observed by all students, implement advanced carpentry and lighting projects, and assist with the maintenance of the production scene shop and Mondanaro Theater, among other responsibilities.
 
The qualified candidate is knowledgeable about audio, video, and special effects equipment and has experience driving either a 16-foot or 24-foot box truck. Proficiency with entertainment arts rigging and CAD drafting (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Rhino, Sketchup, etc.) is preferred.
 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in theater technology, technical theater, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Portfolio evidence of high-level carpentry and lighting proficiency for the performing arts in film, TV, themed entertainment, or live theater
  • Experience with power tools and workforce safety protocols
  • Knowledge of industry standard practices in carpentry and lighting
