Job Description
WKOW-TV, the ABC affiliate in Madison, Wisconsin, is looking for our next Chief Photographer to lead a team of photojournalists. We are looking for someone with a passion for visual storytelling who will maintain our high standards for quality, and who will pass along their knowledge in a positive, professional way.
Our Chief Photographer will supervise and train our team of photojournalists. This person will also train new multi-media journalists (MMJs) on our equipment, including shooting, editing and live gear.
Our Chief Photographer is also responsible for daily news gathering, including shooting and editing VOs, VO-SOTs, packages and other special content. This person will work with the News Director to hire photojournalists and will coordinate the photographer schedule to provide excellent coverage on all shifts.
Our Chief Photographer also works hand-in-hand with our News Operations Manager to keep track of gear assignments, do some basic gear maintenance and to alert the Engineering team when equipment needs to be replaced or fixed.
Qualified candidates should have at least 2 years of newsroom experience working as a photojournalist, the ability to carry up to 50 pounds, a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Applicants must successfully pass a background screening.
