Job Description

In addition to following all policies and procedures within the classroom in regards to expectations and deadlines, Full-Time faculty will handle additional responsibilities that enhance the student experience, drive creative outcomes and advance the goals of the institution. Ai Full Time faculty are considered campus based, which requires a commitment to a full-time schedule on campus. 

In order to meet the expectations of a Full-Time faculty member on campus, faculty will have a cohort of students they are responsible for and are required to be on campus five (5) days a week, for a total of 40 weekly hours and teach five (5) courses per quarter.  A weekly schedule could consist of day or evening classes, which would result in the Full Time Faculty confirming their actual time on campus each day for the quarter with the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Key Job Elements:

Instruction
  • Manages class time effectively (students are active and involved for the entire class period, class meets on time and runs for the required time, instructor is prepared and has detailed lesson plan, etc.)
  • Meets student learning outcomes (SLOs) as outlined in the official institutional syllabus (outcomes and assessments are in line with SLOs, all SLOs are covered in a term, assignments clearly linked with SLOs, etc.)
  • Fosters a respectful, learner-centered environment (activities are designed to keep students engaged and account for multiple learning styles, instructor treats all students as equals and with respect, instructor encourages and cares about student success, etc.)
  • Tutoring and responding to student questions, as directed by Department Chair, Program Coordinator, or Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Completion of course preparation completed within Brightspace a minimum of 14 days prior to the start of class.
  • Substitution, if available.
Student Interaction
  • Posted Office Hours
  • Submit timely Career Edge referrals (tickets).
  • Timely response to students’ communication.
  • Student advising/Registration activities, as outlined in the Faculty/Student Advising Model or requested by the Department Chair, Program Coordinator, or Dean of Academic Affairs.
Learning Management System
  • Utilizes LMS (BrightSpace) as required (posts updated syllabus with approved template, has modules for material and assignments, gradebook properly set up and maintained, etc.). Two-level requirements: system (virtual) and on-ground.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Performs assigned institutional effectiveness assessment activities as requested by Department Chair, Program Coordinator, or Dean of Academic Affairs on a quarterly basis.
  • Participates or lead in assigned committees, as requested by the Department Chair or Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • New Course Development
  • Curriculum development as assigned by Department Chair (Dean’s approval), following the guidelines provided by the curriculum committee and Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Assessment
  • Performs assigned institutional effectiveness assessment activities as requested by Department Chair, Program Coordinator, or Dean of Academic Affairs on a quarterly basis.
  • Training and Development
  • Satisfies faculty development requirements submitted as part of the performance review process. Submits and tracks annual faculty development plan to Department Chair (or Program Coordinator), and satisfies required annual development hours – 12 for adjunct and 24 for full time, maintains relevant professional certifications and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Interacts With:  Academic affairs department, other school/campus functional areas, curriculum task force and other committees, other faculty, and students

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Knowledge:
  • Master’s Degree in Digital Film with experience in Audio or Audio Degree with experience in Digital Film is STRONGLY preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Film or Audio Production required. 
  • Extensive industry experience required.
  • Minimum of two (4) years’ experience in instruction or formalized education process, preferably in a post-secondary or college institution.
  • Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction preferred.
Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
  • Working knowledge of industry related software.
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
  • Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills)
Abilities:
  • Ability to teach upper and lower level courses across a wide range of design specialties. 
  • Ability to advocate for the Film / Audio professions while working with prospective students during enrollment activities.
  • Ability to work several Saturday Open House events per year on a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines. Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse school/campus constituents. Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision
  • Ability to learn from students participation, demonstrates fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and shows compassion without being ineffectual.
  • Ability to consider new technologies as they apply to both Digital Film and Audio.
