Job Description
WOI Local 5 News, the Tegna station in West Des Moines, Iowa, is looking for a reporter who likes to investigate, dig deeper, uncover, and discover as well as cover politics. We seek a candidate who is skilled at source development and in-depth reporting. You will produce quick-turn investigative work and longer-form projects while demonstrating ethical, strong news judgment.

- The role requires a self-starter who will research, develop, and deliver impactful stories and content across all platforms and OTT.
- Proven flexibility to adapt to news cycle needs, including fast-breaking news, short-term enterprise and in-depth explanatory and watchdog coverage.
- Generate balanced, fair, accurate, and complete stories using a diverse range of sources.
- Responsible for researching, writing, shooting, editing, and presenting coverage with local and statewide newsmakers and lawmakers about issues affecting the people of central Iowa.
- Develop and maintain a network of sources and experts within state agencies and political parties.
Job Requirements:
- 1-3 years of reporting experience required.
- Basic experience with newsroom computer and software systems (ENPS & Edius) is preferred.
- Understanding of and adherence to AP Style (for digital) and broadcast writing (for television).
- Ability to operate a field camera, editing, and lighting equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining assigned gear and driving a company vehicle.
