Job Description

The Lead Modeler primary task is to create, material, texture or modify a variety of hard surface models. The Lead Modeler also assists the Director of 3D with managing assignments, notes, as well as approving models before being passed to the next phase of production. The Lead Modeler reports to the Director of 3D.

  • Has expert skills required of Modeler:
  • Proficient at hard surface, parametric, and organic modeling tasks in 3ds Max
  • Ability to material, texture using Vray materials
  • UVW unwrapping and atlas generation
  • Ability to aesthetically light a scene
  • Strong camera compositional skills
  • Set dress according to Floyd County Productions
  • Setup Animation previews
  • Export and test models for other departments
  • Ability to set up NPR renders using Vray Toon pass
  • Ability to create Draft Renders for staging and complete notes from Art Direction
  • Ability to setup camera angles for 3D moving backgrounds
  • Submit layer renders
  • Compile PSDs
  • Export Tracking data
Desired Skills:
  • 2-3 years of experience working as a modeler.
  • Prior management experience is a plus, including noting or assigning work.
  • Basic understanding of organic modeling or sculpting in any of the following programs: 3ds Max, Maya, Zbrush, Mudbox, Modo, Blender
  • Basic understanding of parametric modeling in one of the following: Railclone, Houdini, Blender 
  • All of the following
  • UVW unwrapping and atlas generation
  •  Ability to aesthetically light a scene
  • Knowledge of Vray Toon setup
  • Strong camera compositional skills
  • Geometry nodes
‪Responsibilites:‬
  • Collaborate with a team to develop consistent, previsualized backgrounds based on concept art
  • Work closely with Environment Design department, working from pre-designed models whenever possible.
  • Work from storyboards to setup camera angles and character placement for shots
  • Indicate lighting and texturing appropriate to art style of project to create a starting point for background painting
  • Review work of 3D Modelers and provide constructive and timely feedback.
  • When applicable, execute changes and revisions as requested by Supervisor
  • For establishing shots, organize environments into layer passes which can be used for animation purposes
  • Learn FCP 3D and background pipeline and procedures.
  • Collaborate with respect, humility, inclusion and open-mindedness.
  • Must reside in GA or be willing to relocate.
  • Must be able to provide authorization to work in the US. 
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID vaccination and boosters.
