Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, Broadcast System Integration, The Manager, Media Operations is accountable for the direct management of people and resources and will lead an experienced Media Operations team to deliver the highest availability and quality transmission and media asset management service and create an excellent customer experience. You will also develop an awareness of industry best practice and improve the way we deliver output. You will demonstrate a people management background and may come from either an operations or engineering environment. You will also provide efficient resource planning, fault management, reporting and escalation and maintain technical standards across the operation. The Manager, Media Operations is empowered to make decisions relating to emergencies on their own authority.
Your Impact
- Delegate technical decision making to appropriate levels within the organization whilst continuing to provide oversight and guidance.
- Lead, monitor and manage team performance, motivating and developing team members to maximize potential and to achieve departmental goals.
- Implementation and execution of a Media Operations training and development program.
- Acting as a single-point-of contact during system failures, disaster recovery or other high-risk exposures for the Broadcast facility.
- Recruit, develop and motivate the Media Operations team in order to develop potential and meet QVC’s requirements.
- Develop standards for Media Operations practices.
- Establish policies and procedures and create documentation that provide technical operational support to live and off-line broadcasts.
- Support continuous improvements by analyzing processes, defining new processes where relevant and ensuring they are executed.
What You Bring
- Degree in TV Production or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
- Six years of recent Network Operations, Media Operations or Control Room experience in a television broadcast environment.
- Intimate understanding of Network Operations systems including automation, server play out, graphics, switching and routing.
- Firm understanding of broadcast workflows (i.e., transmission, streaming, closed captioning, HD/SD, and digital platforms.
- Experience in a file workflow environment (file transfer, encoding, etc).
- Experience transmitting live events both domestically and internationally.
- Understanding the operations and all related equipment within the Media Operations Center.
- Ability to guide and help troubleshoot both standard and high-definition broadcast video and audio signals.
- Knowledge of serial digital broadcast equipment and technology.
