Job Description

They are responsible for training, scheduling and assist the Executive Producer with day-to-day management of Producers and also play a key role in disseminating and implementing production and bidding best practices and consistent workflows across the Production team, with the goal of maintaining the best possible relationships with all FuseFX clients, and the best possible creative and financial outcomes for every show. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
  • Production Team Oversight 
  • Create a positive and collaborative work environment for the production teams to thrive 
  • Ensure the Production team properly maintains Nucleus, keeping critical information such as assignments, dates, and scope of work up-to-date at all times 
  • Collaborate with producers on the overall plan for each episode (i.e. sharing shots between facilities, hero shots, temp delivery dates) and monitor budgets nearing the bid amount and general pulse of client’s experience 
  • Act as direct supervisor to all VFX Coordinators and Production Assistants – mentoring, regular check-ins, approving their timesheets, their timeoff requests, hiring, disciplinary action  
  • Ensure all shows have coverage and continuity during production employees’ absences, whether through reassignments or personally covering for other Producers as needed 
  • Flexible to support teams outside of regular office hours as needed, but especially on major deadline days 
Bidding and Financials 
  • Work with Executive Producer to ensure the team is producing accurate and consistent bids back to clients while still being flexible to show specific requests or needs.  
  • Have a strong understanding of client expectations for budgets and bids. Guide other Producers to present realistic numbers to clients, addressing potential issues or large disparities by phone or in person 
  • Stay in the loop on shows in order to monitor and understand the context of bids versus actuals for on-going projects. Flag budget issues to Executive Producer in a timely manner, and recommend solutions 
New Projects 
  • Along with Studio Leadership, help provide biz dev support for Vancouver based potential projects. This includes reading scripts, participating in initial bidding/creative discussions, teaming up with VFX Supervisors to double check bids, costs, shot methodology, attend meetings, etc. 
  • Work with Executive Producer on casting for newly awarded shows 
  • Ensure internal kickoff meetings take place, and Fuse’s team is properly briefed on project requirements and client expectations 
Shows in Production 
  • When necessary, support producers in managing client expectations to ensure they will be met, and that FuseFX is equipped to deliver on those expectations 
  • Produce shows while maintaining sufficient bandwidth for the other duties of the Managing  Producer. Focus on shows that are especially short, challenging, or need to be secured or turned  around 
  • Look for opportunities to remain actively engaged with other shows by sitting in on reviews  and kick offs, doing walk-throughs, and meeting new team members 
  • As requested by Executive Management, prepare show post mortems including accompanying  data and documentation 
Training and Mentoring 
  • Maintain new hire training for Production staff, and keep existing staff up-to-date on latest workflows, technology and best practices 
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Nucleus, Shotgrid and all production pipeline tools, sufficient to provide technical support to the production staff 
  • Actively participate in pipeline development and testing of new production tools, engaging in providing and gathering feedback 
  • Act as a mentor to other team members, both formally and informally. Role model conflict  resolution and provide insight into complex situations 
  • Collaborate with studio leadership and Managing Producers in other locations and verticals to  define and document best practices related to Production and bidding 
  • Develop and deliver formal training sessions that cover technical aspects of the FuseFX  Production pipeline, client relations, and company policies related to Production 
  • Prepare and maintain Production FAQs and document workflows and best practices, organizing  them to be readily accessible to Production staff 
Resource Management 
  • Flag any resource issues to Executive Producer (facility-wide) that has the potential to impact production 
  • Monitor the facility’s interactions with outsource vendors at a show level, including  communication between Producers and vendors, POs and vendor billing 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:  
  • Strong understanding of post and vfx standard pipelines 
  • Ideal candidate is a problem solver, takes initiative, detailed orientated, people person with strong communications skills and has a positive attitude 
  • understands and anticipates client patterns with regard to communication and potentially difficult situations over the course of a project 
  • Proficient with Filemaker pro and/or Shotgrid 
  • Minimum of 5 years in post/vfx
