KIII-TV 3NEWS, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in South Texas, is searching for a creative, collaborative, community-minded individual to lead marketing and community relations efforts for the station. Located on the Texas Gulf Coast, 3NEWS has proudly served the Coastal Bend area for 60 years, establishing a rich legacy of community involvement and upholding its “Known and Trusted” brand.

The Director of Marketing will take on a key leadership role within the station, serving as its chief brand officer and primary liaison for community partnerships. This individual will be a proven people leader with strategic marketing skills to develop thoughtful, multi-platform creative campaigns that will grow our audience, boost revenue, and elevate our community footprint.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of marketing producers, providing ongoing feedback, training, and development.
  • Oversee the creative process, including regular brainstorms and team meetings, with a focus on project and time management.
  • Identify key marketing messages, outline plans for execution, present creative briefs, and produce compelling, multiplatform campaigns.
  • Be the champion for interdepartmental communication, meetings and planning to help foster alignment, uncover revenue opportunities, and create a “no surprises” environment.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency in the present, while continually looking 6-18 months ahead to optimize marketing efforts and limit missed opportunities.
  • Partner with the General Manager and executive leadership team to develop a strategic marketing plan for the station, maintain that plan with a focus on accountability and ownership, and modify the plan as goals or priorities change.
  • Collaborate regularly with News Director and Content leadership team, identifying ways to connect audiences with KIII content that reinforces the brand and core values while supporting station KPI’s and strategic goals.
  • Leverage external partnerships to achieve station goals and increase community impact.
  • Lead the development and execution of community campaigns and events across owned, earned, and paid platforms, and represent KIII at community events when warranted.
  • Utilize insights and data to present regular strategic updates.
  • Actively track, evaluate, and recap community partnerships and media sponsorships.
  • Proactively support local sales team in generating non-traditional revenue dollars.
  • Manage promotional and PSA inventory on KIII and its subchannels.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Marketing or a similar field and 5-8 years of consumer marketing experience with a promotion-specific record of success in broadcast, cable, digital or agency. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Prior experience as a people leader with strong leadership qualities and ability to motivate and engage team members on multiple projects.
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations that clearly outline a strategy and persuasively sell ideas or campaigns to management, staff, advertisers, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a positive, collaborative, team-oriented attitude.
  • Superior communication skills (interpersonal, written, and verbal) with the ability to tailor communication to the audience for which it is intended.
  • Marketing experience on both linear and non-linear platforms.
  • Working knowledge of on-air, streaming, and digital promotion production techniques, and familiarity with current production and photography trends.
  • Understands the value of promotions placement across multiple mediums as a fundamental driver in executing the brand strategy.
  • Experience creating and measuring integrated advertising campaigns supported by an outstanding creative ability and an exceptional portfolio. Creative examples and/or reel is encouraged.
  • Experience working with professional videography equipment, creative lighting techniques, audio mixing and motion graphic design.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop & After Effects, plus Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Passion for being involved in the community and ability to build new connections.
  • Must be comfortable working non-traditional hours to compete in breaking news situations and to represent KIII at community and station events.
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
