Job Description
KULX Telemundo Utah, has an opportunity for a full-time News Director. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Newsgathering, production, news programming and presentation.
- Ensure newscasts are well conceived and provide high quality coverage, accuracy, integrity, and result in an improved competitive position in the market.
- Implement strategic mission and tactical operation of newsroom while ensuring the highest levels of journalistic, ethical, TV production and promotion standards are maintained.
- Oversee day-to-day coverage, big story, breaking news and sweeps planning with consideration of payroll, staffing, field, and news operations to meet established goals and objectives.
- Negotiate and manage some on-air and producer contracts.
- Achieve highest standard of integrity in news operations.
- Manage and lead team of News professionals and maintain positive newsroom environment.
- Provide feedback and coaching to staff & conduct yearly reviews.
- Manage and develop content for streaming platforms.
- Develop and implement strategy for social media and digital platforms.
- Work in partnership with KULX news teams as part of the duopoly.
- Collaborate with VP of News and KULX news management on big story and day to day planning and execution.
- Develop and maintain relationships with departments outside of news like Sales, Brand Marketing and Research.
Basic Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience.
- Three to five years Broadcast experience in a major market, as well as previous management experience leading a news department.
- Understanding of Spanish Language television.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness and ability to work long hours, late nights and weekends as required.
- Must be willing to work at the station in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Must be 18 years or greater.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must accept Solutions as NBCUniversal’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program.
Desired:
- Market research skills.
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Solid leadership, management, communication, interpersonal and team building skills required.
- Ability to grow and maintain a culture of respect and collaboration.
- Proven ability to multi-task and work well under pressure and have the ability to train, coach, and motivate staff members .in a positive way to advance their skills and bring out the very best in each of them.
