Job Description
The ideal Producer candidate is the owner of their newscast who comes to the table with a vision and a plan of execution for the best way to write, build and showcase content on a daily basis. The Producer’s role is to create and organize content for broadcast, utilizing strong editorial, journalistic, organizational and communication skills. The Producer showcases content in a unique and compelling way, while fulfilling our station’s commitment to tell stories that are important to the people who live, work and play in Coastal Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. We are offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for this role.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Develops and organizes all content within a daily local newscast; responsible for writing stories and teases, graphics creation, story selection and showcasing
- Collaborates with reporters, anchors, news managers and assignment editors to determine content needs and storytelling direction
- Collaborates with director, production team and editors to bring the vision for the newscast to life each day
- Showcase our product in a unique way; enhances content with graphics, video, research, and station branding
- Execute time sensitive editorial decisions and thrive in a deadline driven environment
- Responsible for oversight of live broadcast, from rundown creation to spur of the moment decisions in the control booth
- Performs other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Extraordinarily passionate about conversational writing; you are a creative storyteller with a strong attention to detail, including proper grammar and spelling
- Self-motivated, extremely organized and highly adaptable in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
- Must be able to command a control room during a live newscast and live breaking news coverage
- Ability and desire to own the big story of the day
- Working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws and strong editorial judgement
- Avid news consumer with good news judgement; knows about daily news, events and trends happening on a local and national level
- Excellent written and verbal communicator; team player with a positive attitude
- Working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws and strong editorial judgement
- Prior knowledge of ENPS or similar newsroom system is a plus
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of experience as a local television writer or producer preferred
