Busy TV and multimedia production company seeks an experienced Gear Tech that will help maintain and manage the in-house inventory and distribution of production equipment to our multiple local and remote productions. The ideal candidate is highly organized and has significant real-world experience in production and fluency in all common camera, lighting, grip, and audio equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Track and maintain the up-to-date equipment inventory and availability
  • Perform the thorough check-in and check-out of all field production equipment packages
  • Test, prepare, and safely pack equipment in a timely manner for various modes of travel
  • Working knowledge of all gear/tech specs and ability to troubleshoot in-house or with various crew in the field
  • Coordinate with local and remote rental suppliers when necessary
  • Assist with the purchase of new equipment and resale or recycling of old equipment
  • Perform small repairs, basic maintenance, and firmware updates as necessary
  • Coordinate with outside vendors for larger repairs and maintenance
  • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of equipment packages and media
  • Stay current with new and emerging production equipment trends and techniques
Required:
  • Experience working in both production coordination and in the field with production equipment
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team: prioritizing and balancing needs of many projects, often with limited direction
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and online resources.
  • Fluency in all common production formats and technical specs, including an understanding of recording codecs and data rates
  • Experience with television production cameras (i.e. Sony FS7/FX9, Arri Amira/Mini LF) and lenses
  • Experience with lighting and grip equipment
  • Ability to competently clean & service equipment (*bonus if can solder and build cables)
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
Prefer:
  • Experience with WebCheckout inventory management or similar software
  • Experience with shipping via FedEx including the various lithium battery protocols
  • Experience with airline weights and baggage policies
  • Experience with field audio packages and mixers
  • Experience with Teradek wireless video systems and monitor setup
  • Experience with DJI drones
  • Experience with maintaining and tracking L&Ds and generating reports
  • Ability to work on set (as needed/schedule permitting) potentially Media Managing, assisting Camera and/or G&E team
