Job Description

Responsibilities:  
  • Implement animation control rigging systems for complex characters and props using Maya 
  • Set up rigs for low and high-res characters 
  • Set up and rig character models 
  • Work with animators to design, create, and maintain animation rigs for characters that are clean, efficient, and animation friendly 
  • Works in partnership with R&D programmers, Animators, Lighting TD's to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard 
  • Take direction from Animation Supervisors and Leads as well as provide guidance and mentorship to other Riggers[Text Wrapping Break]Design user interfaces and controls for characters and facial animation systems (bone and blend shape driven) 
  • Work closely with Animators and Modelers to troubleshoot and fix problems or rig limitations that arise in the course of production. 
  • Maintain and improve current animation pipeline 
  • Maintain a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work 
  • Provide support to character rigs throughout production 
Required Skills: 
  • Ability to learn quickly and comprehend custom in-house production tools. 
  • Firm understanding of animation production pipelines. 
  • Ability to quickly grasp and replicate anatomy and articulation of non-realistic creatures from various reference materials. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and wrangle character-rigging issues for artists 
  • Knowledge of animation sharing, and motion capture transfer between character rigs 
Preferred Skills:  
  • Prior company experience. 
  • Experience troubleshooting pipeline issues.  
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum 3 years experience with character rigging. 
  • Knowledge of Maya rigging tools including joint and skeleton creation, skinning and weighting, IK setup, blend-shapes, and deformers. 
  • Solid understanding of anatomy and articulation of realistic humans and creatures. 
  • Solid understanding of articulations and rig building on digital characters as well as sophisticated props and vehicles. 
  • MEL scripting required, working knowledge of Python desired. 
  • Knowledge of animation sharing, and motion capture transfer between character rigs 
Education:   
  • High School education or equivalent required  
  • BA/BS in applicable field preferred
