Job Description

MSNBC is looking for an experienced Segment Producer for Ayman.

This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and write perspective monologues and guest segments.
  • Determine video and sound for assigned segments.
  • Communicate daily story development with Executive & Senior producers.
  • Be in control room during airing of live segment.
  • Take part in editorial planning.
  • Pitch story ideas.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics & foreign policy
  • 5 years of experience in some form of journalism required (i.e. cable or network news, website, newspaper).
  • Edit room experience and breaking news experience preferred.
  • Candidate should be comfortable working under tight deadlines.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Possess ability to develop story ideas, research, and plan segments.
  • Ability to weave narratives and develop editorial throughlines for host commentaries.
  • Exceptional editorial skills: Ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television.
  • Desire to search for, and produce, stories off the beaten path; that aren’t getting the coverage they deserve.
  • Knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture.
  • Wide-range reader of news, including op-eds.
Additional Job Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
Salary range: $93,000 - $110,000
