Job Description

The Verge is seeking a highly talented video director to join our tech video team in creating unique non-fiction video content for our YouTube channels and social platforms. Our video staff is part of The Verge’s editorial team; this is a job for journalists and storytellers above all.

The ideal candidate will be a fast, proficient editor and skilled videographer with a multitude of compelling creative pieces on their reel. We’re looking for a strong storyteller and visionary — people who are dialed into content that performs on the internet as well as a passion for telling stories about everything The Verge covers: technology, science, entertainment, transportation, politics, and design.

As a Director, you will be embedded on our tech team, creating videos for YouTube and YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels and other emerging platforms. You will work across our shows and series, including the video extensions for our two podcasts: Decoder with Nilay Patel and The Vergecast.  A core part of the production process will be identifying editorial content that will translate into awesome video, ensuring every piece of content we create and publish is compelling, rigorous, and native to each platform. Additionally you will be able to script copy for video as needed and engage in using multimedia tools to tell stories. This position offers creative freedom to jump into the deep end of the internet backed by a slew of kick-ass editorial support. Have your own story to tell? We field pitches from everyone on the team, and there’s room to grow as a reporter and host. No matter the project, enthusiasm, leadership, an ability to juggle multiple projects, and initiative to kick-start projects in a busy work environment are all musts.

  • Conceptualize, develop, and produce both new series and formats
WHO YOU ARE
  • Professional experience in directing, filming and video editing
  • Demonstrated storytelling capabilities with background in nonfiction storytelling / journalism
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop is a must

  • Keen eye for aesthetics and visual storytelling
  • Profound understanding of the latest news and trends related to The Verge’s coverage areas
  • If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter and a highlight reel to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.
