Job Description

9NEWS (KUSA) in Denver is looking for a Senior News Producer who can bring creativity, energy, and leadership to the 9NEWS Late News team.

We're searching for someone with a proven ability to create, produce and write news of the day and enterprise content, working with the Executive Producer as well as a team of talented journalists. This producer will have strong skills, strong leadership qualities and strong creative ideas about how to make newscasts stand out from our competitors.

This producer loves to own their show, while working with a team to make it better. They can find the balance between hard-hitting news, storytelling with context, and moments of fun that make a morning show great. They’re not afraid to try something new, and they’re always up for a challenge.

Pay Range: $26.50 to $33.66 per hour (DOE) - This is an hourly position.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan content and guide vision for our Late News shows with the help of Executive Producer and Senior News Leadership
  • Help lead the content and continued transformation of our Late News shows
  • Line produce and craft compelling newscasts that embrace breaking news, enterprise content, emotion, and showcasing
  • Work directly with Executive Producer & news leaders to consistently build a high-quality news show
  • Use creative production techniques like graphics, editing and new forms of media to enhance stories
  • Write in an exciting, accurate, and creative way
  • Enterprise news stories
  • React to breaking news and manage the show's timing
  • Research stories to ensure they are factual and ascertain sources’ credibility
  • Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and produce content
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
  • Be a leader in the newsroom

Job Requirements:
  • College degree in Journalism, Communications or similar
  • 3-5 years’ experience full-time newscast producing or executive producing
  • Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content
  • Strong social media skills to deliver content and listen for ideas
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, and Axis graphics a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Sedentary work: Involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
