CPB Overview:

CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. CPB is the steward of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting and the largest single source of funding for public radio, television, and related online and mobile services. CPB’s mission is to ensure universal access to non -commercial, high- quality content and telecommunications services. It does so by distributing more than 70% of its funding to more than 1,500 locally owned public radio and television stations. CPB by the numbers:

CPB does not produce programming and does not own, operate or control any public broadcasting stations. Additionally, CPB, PBS, and NPR are independent of each other and of local public television and radio stations.

CPB strives to support diverse programs and services that inform, educate, enlighten and enrich the public. Through grants, CPB encourages the development of content that addresses the needs of underserved audiences, especially children and minorities. CPB also funds multiple digital platforms used by thousands of public media producers and production companies throughout the country.

Goals:

CONTENT AND SERVICES: Promote an educated, informed, and diverse civil society by supporting high-quality engaging content and services created, developed, executed by diverse talent at all levels and capacities, and delivered across multiple platforms.

INNOVATION: Strengthen the quality of public media's content and services, and deepen the engagement with audiences and users, by supporting innovative projects.

SUPPORT FOR PUBLIC MEDIA: Strengthen the quality of public media's content and services by supporting strong public media entities that are vital to and reflective of the people they serve.

Position Summary:

This position is remote until the end of 2021 with the possibility of extension into 2022.

Reporting to the CEO, the SVP will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the human resources and learning & development functions, with a particular focus on enhancing CPB’s activities related to organizational design, workforce planning, change management, staff engagement, and talent development. The SVP will also work with leaders and staff across the organization as well as within the public broadcasting community to advance a culture grounded in the organization’s commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI). This person serves as a trusted advisor and partner to senior leadership team and is responsible for partnering effectively with them to develop and build out key initiatives and programs that are aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives and priorities.

The SVP works closely with CPB’s executive leadership to achieve CPB’s corporate Goals and Objectives and contributes to the development and implementation of CPB’s annual business plan as it relates to DEI programs and initiatives. The SVP is a thought leader who can cultivate relationships for the benefit of public media and provide strategic vision and advice to national and local public media leadership.

Requirements

Ideal Candidate Skills:
  • Experience with strategy and successful implementation in cultural transformation, organizational design, compensation & benefits, workforce planning, succession planning, employee relations, learning & development, and reporting & analytics with a primary focus on DEI.
  • Knowledge and track record in compliance with regulations governing employment and benefits programs.
  • Customer-centric, data-driven, and results-oriented leader, capable of leading transformative change; experience building out best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success at cultivating strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating partnerships at all levels within the organization to achieve results.
  • Ability to effectively address complex issues in an effective and efficient manner, and with complete discretion; ability to be entrusted with sensitive and confidential information.

Key Selection Criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years progressive and strategic leadership and management experience in people strategy, HR, organizational development, DEI, or another relevant field.
  • Recent experience in making transformative changes in a similarly situated organization.
  • Experience with serving as a strategic advisor to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI in staff leadership and management.
