Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is in person and is full-time, exempt.

WDSE•WRPT is a community licensed public television station broadcasting from Duluth, Minnesota. It is a growing organization which brings high-quality local journalism and community media programming to viewers on multiple platforms. The Producer will be joining a team of highly skilled and experienced producers, editors, and videographers who are passionate about public media! We are looking for someone who is equally passionate about developing and creating compelling and informative multiplatform video content with a regional focus, engaging our dynamic and diverse community.

For this position, we give preference to American Indians living on or near an Indian reservation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:
  • Pitch, develop, and research story ideas with an eye toward creative execution and in collaboration with leadership teams.
  • Identify and execute project logistics with key collaborators, including conducting and coordinating interviews, securing locations, and tracking mileage and travel
  • Build relationships and partnerships with community organizations and
  • Develop & film programming with creative
  • Manage and assist with field and studio production, audio, video, set work, lighting, .
  • Script or outline story/program, providing off-line edits and/or explicit instructions to the Editor and/or Videographer who will assemble program elements.
  • Lead the research and development of topics for ACH
  • Understand and use project management
  • Develop and manage production schedules and deadlines in collaboration with the Production Manager. Delegate assignments and duties to the Native Report team.
  • Manage Native Report budget in collaboration with the Production
  • Edit content in collaboration with the project
  • Secure all requisite releases and identify sources of information and visual materials while adhering to copyright and other legal standards.
  • Manage freelancer hire and
  • Collaborate on promotional and social channels, in alignment with marketing, related to projects and programs for which one is the producer.
  • Manage digital distribution of content for which one is the producer, in alignment with marketing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Education & Engagement Coordinator on lesson plans and educator
  • Mentor and train early career colleagues and interns, encouraging and fostering best practices based on subject matter expertise.
  • Assure efficient use of all station resources in obtaining multimedia elements for a program (including archiving, graphics, storage, etc…).
  • Participate in weekly production
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS APPLICABLE
  • Assist in securing program production funding, identifying and developing partnerships in cooperation with development personnel.
  • Serve as voice talent for underwriting
  • Correspond with viewers seeking information about current and past
  • Appear on-air during pledge drives and other live
  • Perform related special projects or other duties as
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to tell high-quality, creative, educational, thoughtful, visual, and engaging stories through multimedia.
  • Know and utilize the fundamentals of creative pre-production, including, but not limited to, researching topics and story ideas, driven by story, audience, and distribution platforms.
  • Exceptional writing
  • Have a broad knowledge of current

WORKING CONDITIONS:
